From the recording Storybook
Pouring Rain has what I call an "add-on" chorus where a little more is added on to the chorus every time I sing it. The song is very angry so it's a good song to release any pent-up aggression or rage. I always have to re-tune my guitar after every live performance because I strum so hard on the strings that by the end of the song, the sound starts to distort.
Lyrics
CHORUS:
You said it in the pouring rain
Told me to never come again
But now you want me back to tie up pretty packages
With bows and ribbons and tape
with no color
CHORUS+:
but you got to notice this: you can't have someone back again if this is the way you treat them
And now you're telling me you'll give me everything but it was mine in the first place and I'll get it back somehow
CHORUS++:
Throw them out like garbage, give good things away
And now you're begging me, I've got you on your knees and it's too good of a scene to say yes, so no, no, no
CHORUS+++:
Then want them back, now realize: you weren't good for me anyway
It's pouring rain, I'm pouring rain, it's pouring rain on you baby
